HESTIA generates aggregated data, available in the Data Explorer. Aggregated data represent the average impact of producing a product in a specific region and time period.
Aggregated data are validated by the HESTIA team by checking consistency with other sources, including Poore & Nemecek (2018).
There is a general process for generating aggregations, with modifications depending on the termType of the product being aggregated. Aggregation of animal products is currently under development and has not yet been released.
Distributions of the underlying data used to produce the aggregations are available for aggregations in versions 1.1 and 1.2.
The general process described here applies to all aggregations, regardless of the termType.
The aggregation process for crop products involves additional steps specific to this term type.
The parts of the aggregation process that are specific to processedFood products.
Distributions describe the variability of the underlying data used to produce aggregations.
When aggregating data, we make available the underlying data used to create the aggregation, together with the weights and calculation methods that were applied. We do not store all the underlying values used to create the aggregated value: aggregati
