Accessing Data


All public data on the HESTIA platform are freely accessible without creating an account. Data can be explored interactively, downloaded in multiple formats, or accessed programmatically via the API.

What is the Data Explorer?

The Data Explorer provides access to the HESTIA platform's collection of agricultural and environmental data. Filtering and search tools allow users to identify relevant data efficiently.

Navigating the Interface

The Data Explorer uses several key terms (defined in detail in the Data Standard):

Searching and Filtering

The Filter Panel, located on the left of the screen, allows you to refine your search and pinpoint the exact data you need.

Downloading Data

All public data on the HESTIA platform can be downloaded without creating an account.

Data Releases

HESTIA data are published in periodic versioned releases. Each release contains a fixed snapshot of all public data, recalculated using the current version of the HESTIA models and aggregated into national and global averages.

AWS Open Data

HESTIA's aggregated data is published to the AWS Open Data Registry as s3://hestia-aggregated-data in the eu-west-2 region, under the CC-BY 4.0 licence.

openLCA

openLCA has a built-in HESTIA client. You can search HESTIA from inside openLCA and import Cycles straight into an openLCA database as processes — nothing is exported to a file and no converter is involved, the client calls

Using the HESTIA Data API

The Data API allows anyone to access all public data stored in HESTIA, in a compacted (pivoted) format.

Citation and Data Licence

All public data on the HESTIA platform are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. This means the data may be freely shared, adapted, and used for any purpo
