Coconut, fruit
The fully mature fruit of the coconut tree, with its greenish exocarp and fibrous mesocarp removed. The lignified endocarp, lined with a thin brown seed coat, is initially filled with a liquid endosperm (called "coconut water"). With time, cellular layers of endosperm deposit along the walls of the endocarp forming the edible edosperm known as "coconut meat", which is fully solid in the mature fruit.
