Integrated production system
A farming system that follows the holisitic principles set down in the "declaration of Ovronnaz" (1976). The entire farm (with crops, livestock, trees and/or aquaculture) is treated as a unit and emphasis is placed on the central role of agro-ecosystems, on nutrient cycles which are balanced and adapted to the demand of the crops, and on health and welfare of all livestock on the farm. The preservation and improvement of soil fertility, of a diversified environment and the observation of ethical and social criteria are essential components and biological, technical and chemical methods are balanced carefully taking into account the protection of the environment, profitability, and social requirements.
