Cockatoo, fresh forage
Hairy tufted perennial 20-90 cm high. with shoot bases coated with densely hairy scales. An early grass which flowers at the very beginning of the rains. It can withstand some waterlogging. It is an early grass and, in Kenya, fresh herbage is produced at the very beginning of the rains when other grasses still dormant.
