Banana, fruit (plantain)
The edible fruit of several cultivars of the banana plant, normally eaten after cooking. The vast majority of modern bananas comes from either Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana or various hybrids between these two species (overall known as "Musa x paradisiaca"). This term can be used to describe the fruit of both the true plantain (i.e., one of the cultivars belonging to the AAB chromosome group) and the so-called "cooking bananas", which can belong to other groups. To further specify the species and/or cultivar, use the [variety](/schema/Product#variety) field.
