**Dataset:** geoBoundaries

**Licence:** Per boundary, given in each release's metadata: mostly [ODbL 1.0](https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/) and CC BY 4.0, some public domain or CC BY-SA. Attribution is always required, and the ODbL and CC BY-SA boundaries are share-alike.

Maps each HESTIA country (GADM 3.6 level 0) to the geoBoundaries geometry that stands for it, so that a Caching API deployment can answer country queries from geoBoundaries instead of GADM. Disputed areas follow the geoBoundaries CGAZ composite. Generated by `scripts/geoboundaries/generate_lookup.py`.

- `geoBoundariesIso`: the geoBoundaries country the geometry comes from; for `CGAZ_ADM1`, the country the unit belongs to.
- `geoBoundariesLayer`: `CGAZ_ADM0` (the country's own CGAZ unit), `gbOpen_ADM0` (the country's own gbOpen layer, for a territory CGAZ folds into another country), or level-1 units: for Åland, Hong Kong, Macao and Puerto Rico, the unit of another country as `CGAZ_ADM1`, `gbOpen_ADM1` or `gbOpen_ADM1_land` (the gbOpen unit clipped to the CGAZ land outline), whichever matches the GADM country better; and for a country whose own gbOpen ADM0 layer is under a licence HESTIA may not redistribute (Poland), its own gbOpen units as `gbOpen_ADM1`. Its outer border is then gbOpen's line rather than CGAZ's, so its neighbours are subtracted from it (`geoBoundariesExcludes`) and their border wins. Where gbOpen's line falls short of CGAZ's, under 20 km² in all, a point resolves to no country.
- `geoBoundariesUnits`: the units whose union is the geometry, `;`-separated. `shapeGroup` for `CGAZ_ADM0`, including the numeric CGAZ codes of disputed areas assigned to the country; `shapeID` otherwise.
- `geoBoundariesExcludes`: HESTIA countries whose geometry is subtracted from this one: the territories CGAZ folds into it, or for a country built from its own level 1 (Poland), its CGAZ neighbours, so that their border wins.
- `geoBoundariesIou`: intersection over union of the resulting geometry with the GADM 3.6 country, both simplified to 100 m.
- `geoBoundariesRelation`: `equal` (IoU of at least 0.9), `partial`, or `missing` (no geoBoundaries geometry: a Site there resolves to whichever country CGAZ assigns the area to).
- `geoBoundariesLicense` and `geoBoundariesSource`: the `boundaryLicense` and `boundarySource` of the geoBoundaries layer, for attribution. A CGAZ unit with no gbOpen layer of its own (Western Sahara, the Paracel Islands) is the US Department of State boundary CGAZ clips every country to, recorded as public domain.
